En route from South Beach to the Everglades, we detoured through Coral Gables to visit The Biltmore Hotel. What a stunner! Vaulted ceilings, marble and travertine, hand-painted frescoes, lush greenery. This place was built to impress, and over time has built an interesting history. Which brings me to the reason we went in the first place: Peter's grandmother ("Mama Garson"), had told of a swimsuit contest she entered at The Biltmore in the 1930's. She recalled the unusual thing about this contest was that everyone wore rubber swimsuits! Well, in we walked, and there she was! A photograph of the event is on display in the lobby, and the caption reads: "Contestants for the Selection of Miss Florida. Miami Biltmore Pools. Sunday, March 3rd, 1935. Featuring U.S. Rubber Bathing Suits." Go Mama! #TheBiltmoreHotel #coralgables #garsonjasper
South Beach, Miami: Art Deco rules! Clean lines, symmetry, vibrant pops of color: The same elements that embody the Garson Jasper aesthetic. Fresh, bright, happy! Loving it! #artdecodiva #artdecodistrict #thetidessouthbeach Lobby at The Tides South Beach designed by Kelly Wearstler. #kellywearstler #thetidessouthbeach
Garson Jasper hits the Florida coast! My GOODNESS that sun feels fantastic in the midst of a Boston winter. Maybe I can pack some of that sunshine in my tote and bring it back home...
Ever see home decor fabric so good you want to wear it? I do! The richly textured weights and large scale patterns are a refreshing departure from what we typically see in apparel fabrics. Check out House and Garden UK (January 2015) where Ruth Sleightholme's "paper-doll wardrobes feature paisley prints and embroidered fabrics that blur the line between fashion and decoration." More wearable art and some "thinking outside the cloth" approaches below. I'm inspired! #wearableart #largepatternfabric #fabricdesign A little green dress woven from botanicals. Oh my another snowy day in Boston! And a day snowed in is license to spend time with a hot cup and a great read. Some cozy comforts that will keep you snuggled up...
Have you noticed the renewed interest in antique + modern? I'm loving the crisp look of seasoned pieces against a fresh, clean palette. "Brown furniture" as it has come to be known, is sharing stage again, so get on the hunt for your one-of-a-kind pieces now while they are plentiful and at an all-time low. With a backdrop of whitewashed walls and crisp linen, these pieces are given instant new life. A few chic examples. Amazing guest house renovation! acountryfarmhouse.blogspot.com/January 2013. Washington, D.C. based designer Darryl Carter, master of "The New Traditional." Designer Erin Gates presents beautiful examples of a collected and layered look on her Elements of Style blog.
A quintessential island visit: the good fortune of family, the warmth of sunshine, and the crisp bright light and autumn color of New England. This past weekend a renewed perspective on old favorites: Cape Pogue, Chappy Ferry, Menemsha, and the off-season charm of Edgartown and Vineyard Haven. Some fresh discoveries too!
New Garson Jasper print: Monstera! Fresh arrival. Bright, colorful, crisp, and BIG! Linen/cotton blend, terrific as a pop of color delivering instant style on pillows, drapery panels, bedding accents. Available in custom colors... ooo the possibilities! And, the same day my new fabric design arrived at my door, so did this month's issue of #RealSimple, featuring a Monstera leaf on the holiday table! #patterntrend #monstera
Jasper found this on his nature walk and thought I might find it interesting. Indeed I do! It looks to be the fruit of a Black Walnut tree. I see a fabric design in its future...
